Position Summary:


PenguinData Workforce Management, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Payroll/Staff Accountant. This work-from-home position allows you to work as part of a close-knit financial/payroll team at a growing SaaS workforce management company. 
 

Primary Position Duties:


Payroll:
  • Process weekly multi-state US payroll for hourly, salary, and contract employees.
  • Prepare payroll accounting journal entries and record them in the general ledger system.
  • Review and audit employee voluntary deductions, including medical benefits, FSA, and 401k contributions.
  • Ensure compliance with multiple federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws, and best practices.
  • Process all federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and payments.
  • Reconcile payroll, tax filing, and benefits, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Audit, preview, and post payroll reports for accuracy.
  • Assist with year-end payroll processing duties to ensure accurate and timely filing of W2s and 1099s.
 
Accounting:
  • Proficient with A/R and A/P functions.
  • Proficient with financial statement reporting.
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing process.
  • Proficient with financial software.
 

Position Requirements:

 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to follow directions, execute timely, and ensure accuracy
  • Effectively able to manage conflicting priorities and workload pressures
  • Focuses on process improvement
  • Exercises good business judgment
  • Takes ownership and accountability for tasks
  • Aptitude to analyze data and formulate sound conclusions
  • Must have excellent attention to detail, analytical abilities, and technical skills in accounting
  • Accurate with numbers and calculations

  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • Learns new systems and processes quickly
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP
